@@@@@Toru Yoshizawa: Brief biography and research works

Toru Yoshizawa received his BS, MS and Doctor of Engineering degrees in precision engineering from
University of Tokyo. After 10 years of research and educational work at Yamanashi University (1968-
1978), he moved to Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, where he was professor in the
Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering for 25 years (1978-2003). After retirement from this
university, he worked in industry for three years and again, in 2006, moved to Saitama Medical
University (as a full-time professor) to initiate the Department of Biomedical Engineering. In April 2012
he left the medical university to restart as a consultant for industrial companies and as an advisor to
associations. Currently he is serving as Director of Non-Profit Organization "3D Associates" and
Professor Emeritus at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He is one of initiators of SPIE
(International Society for Optics and Photonics, US) and served as Chapter Chair for 10 years, and is
a Fellow of SPIE. His research field covers optical metrology and optomechatronics with emphasis on
dimensional meassurement. He is an author or editor of many books and research papers including "
Handbook of Optical Metrology: Principles and Applications" (CRC Press, Taylor & Francis, March
2009).
